TUSKA 2003-2007 – THE STORY OF US
Eija Mäkivuoti has documented communal phenomena in contemporary society from a very personal angle. The exhibition Tuska 2003-2007 – The story of us, is a photographic documentary of five years of Tuska Open Air metal festival. Mäkivuoti portrays the lifestyle of the metal crowd, not forgetting the humour and self-irony. The exhibition will be shown in two parts. The warm-up is on display at Gallery Sinne in June and the main exhibition takes place in the Finnish Museum of Photography, both in Helsinki, Finland.
UNDER THE NORTHERN STAR
In conjunction to the exhibitions, for the closing of the warm-up exhibition and for the opening of the main exhibition, there will be staged a one-evening live event, Under the Northern Star. The event includes live performances from different metal bands but also more interdisciplinary acts transmitted by different forms of media: made by a performance company and a group of media artists. This event has a purpose to interact with different audiences and to stage a cross-art event. It will bring Finnish and Nordic artists to work for a common goal for one evening: for the love of music and (live) performing.
The performers and other contributors represent an interesting variety of contemporary Finnish metal bands and contemporary artists, who work with interdisciplinary ways with art. The main act of the evening is a Finnish deathtrash band, Deathchain. Other Finnish metal acts are Perfect Chaos, End of You and Carcosa. The band SIC will bring a wind of rage from the Faroe Islands and are having their first concert in Finland. More interdisciplinary interventions to the event will be brought by Oblivia, a performance company and by mikroPaliskunta crew, an interdisciplinary artist group together with other visual and light artists’ with i.e. audiovisuals works. Performance art is introduced by Magnús Logi Kristinsson and his “List performance” custom made for the event. We will also pay hommage to the canceled radio X3M show Metallväktarna. Nosturi as a site will have a transformation into a visual piece of art with lighting, installations and projections. The host of the evening is Kjell Simosas, a radio journalist from the Finnish-Swedish Radio X3M.
The intention to unite communities from the different fields of art will stage an interesting mixture of NOISE and of being present on a stage. The whole Live Event will be a process based site-specific social artwork, presenting a little bit different concept of a live performance event / concert.
